The UN Futures Lab/Global Hub collaborated with Earth4All and the UN University–Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR) to conduct systems dynamic modelling in Africa and explore regional pathways for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project drew on foresight and systems thinking expertise to help analyze SDG interdependencies, understand the longer-term potential implications, and design scenario-testing tools to evaluate policy interventions. This work culminated in the publication of the SDGs for All: Africa report, which highlights the transformative potential of policy shifts to achieve sustainable development by 2100 and provides actionable pathways for reducing poverty, addressing inequality, and fostering inclusive governance within planetary boundaries.
This initiative demonstrated the power of systems dynamic modelling in offering actionable insights at a regional level. By evaluating potential policy impacts, the project emphasized the need for integrated, future-oriented strategies to achieve the SDGs. The collaboration between the partners showcased how innovative methodologies can bridge knowledge gaps and drive evidence-based policymaking for long-term resilience and prosperity in the Global South.
