The UN Futures Lab/Global Hub, in collaboration with Global Cities Hub and UN University-Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR), co-developed, designed, and facilitated an in-person multistakeholder foresight workshop in Geneva on Urbanization and Conflict. This workshop explored how urbanization trends intersect with conflict, inequalities, and fragility, and how cities can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
With urban populations expected to reach 70% by 2045, cities are critical to addressing global challenges. This workshop underscored the dual nature of urbanization—its potential to exacerbate fragility and inequality, and its opportunities to accelerate progress on the SDGs. By focusing on foresight and community-driven solutions, the event helped redefine urban planning and governance as essential tools for achieving sustainable, inclusive futures.
